The Chapel Choir
What does it do?
o Prepares repertoire for major musical events at the Chapel
o Opening Exercises and Baccalaureate
o Alumni Service of Remembrance
o Easter Sunday
o A full concert each semester
Who is it for?
o People who prefer not to have a weekly Sunday commitment
o People who prefer a shorter rehearsal
o People who want to concentrate on learning and polishing a smaller amount of repertoire
o People who prefer or need lots of repetition to learn their music (including practice tracks)
o Beginning choral singers who want to concentrate on skill building
What are rehearsals like?
o Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:45 to 5:45
o The first 10 to 15 minutes will include warm-ups and musicianship training (sight-reading, music theory).
o The remaining time will focus on repertoire for the concert and other big musical events such as Easter. The narrow focus allows for repetition and fine-tuning.
What skills are required?
o Ability to match pitch
o Sense of rhythmic pulse
o Ability to remember and sing back melodic passages
o Ability to hear the lower note of large harmonic intervals
What are the other requirements?
o Commit to attending all rehearsals, required services, and concerts. 3 missed rehearsals permitted per semester, with reasonable exceptions.
o Commit to attending all extra rehearsals for the end-of-semester concert.
o Commit to notifying the director in advance of any absence.
o Sign a calendar contract at the beginning of each semester.
